Staring at the Sun in Malta

Written 28/04/2010:

It was our first trip to this beautiful island, but the fans at St. Mary’s Band Club in Ghaxaq on Friday night made us feel home from home. Straight from leaving airport we were given an experience of Malta which was second-to-none. From exclusive hotels and restaurants, to the thing that really makes the island special: its people.

We have never before received such a warm welcome to a location from its people. So our thanks go out to those of you who came to the meet and greet and chatted to us and had your photos taken with us and made us feel so welcome (too many of you to name here but you know who you are). None of this would have been possible without the effort and support of Martin and the other sponsors at St Mary’s. It was an honor to be shown around your beautiful building and letting us leave a message in your visitor’s book along side none other than president Abela himself. Your hospitality was limitless and you sure know how to throw a party!

The Saturday night saw us playing the SKY club in St. Julians 2000+ fans; their voices soaring over the music as they sang along to “staring at the sun” as Tony and Simon performed on top of the speakers at the barrier. Our thanks go to the PA/Video and Backline teams who made sure we were set up for our show. Also to our awesome support acts for the night; Red Electrick and Airport Impressions Video footage of the show will be available at some point in the near future: details to follow.

To Steve, Jonathan and his family, and Francoise go our biggest thanks for catering to our every need for the whole weekend and inviting us over to play. The weekend ran like clockwork. You both have a lot of passion for what you do and are really genuine people. We wish you all the luck with future events and hope to come and play for you again soon.

We’d also like to thank our drivers for the weekend Charles and Geoffrey. For making sure we got everywhere on time and making sure we got back to the hotel every night.

So to a beautiful island with wonderful people who have so much soul, we thank you. We’ll definitely be looking to come back soon for a holiday – and we would recommend it to anyone.

Magnificent Malta

The planes across Europe may be stuck and not moving anywhere, but fingers crossed this Friday we will be flying out to the gorgeous island of Malta, and what a busy few days we have in store for us there!

Straight off the plane we will be holding a press conference to the island’s media at the breathtaking Excelsior Grand Hotel, talking about what it’s like to be in Europe’s Premiere U2 show band and our love of U2 music.

A quick stop off at our equally stunning hotel for the weekend, and then it’s off to Ghaxaq in the evening for a meet and greet with our Maltese Fans.

Then Saturday night is the big show. An afternoon of tech rehearsals and sound checks to make sure everything is perfect for a night in Malta which is going to be more explosive than an Icelandic volcano!!
